Under the leadership of Jean Bugatti, the Type 57 was equipped with innovative twin-cam engines, making it one of the fastest cars of its time. It was at the wheel of a Type 57 that Jean-Pierre Wimille won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1937 and 1939, accompanied by a certain Pierre Veyron.
