The 924, the purists didn’t want it. Audi engine, designed in collaboration with Volkswagen: plenty of reasons to turn up their noses. Then Porsche had the idea of bolting on a turbo, and suddenly everyone stopped complaining. The 924 Turbo is the comeback of the unloved one: 170 hp in a light, aerodynamic shell, rear-wheel drive of course, which still holds its own today. The purists can keep their 911s; you’ll keep the smile.
